NYC Together was founded in January of 2015 and formed its first cohort in May of 2015 with an original mission to interrupt the school to prison pipeline through meaningful collaborations between police officers and youth most impacted by system involvement. These meetings are efficacious alternatives to conventional - sometimes adversarial - responses to crime and disorder, leading to increased public safety and improved academic outcomes for youth. In less than four years, we have grown from working with eight students and two officers to engaging forty-five students and eighteen officers through weekly programming each academic year. NYC Together has also fostered relationships with +2500 community members including young people and officers in quarterly engagements that promote education and culture shifts that elevate social justice.
